In a trial at Fashola, Western State, savanna rangeland from which trees had been removed in 1964 and which was dominated by Andropogon gayanus was burned in (a) Dec. 1969, (b) Jan. '70 or (c) Feb. '70 or (d) was left unburned. The rate of herbage DM production in the following growing season was not affected by burning date but tended to be lower in (d) than in burned plots.
