Studies on the production of ketosis in lactating cows through feeding variations and thyroxine application

, : Studies on the production of ketosis in lactating cows through feeding variations and thyroxine application. Berliner und Munchener Tierarztliche Wochenschrift 86(15): 281-283

High energy rations (supplying 123% of the protein and 136% of the energy requirements) fed to 10 high-yielding Black Pied cows from 3 months pre-partum to 7 days post partum produced considerable increases in wt. and good milk yields. A drastic reduction in the rations from 7 days post partum onwards (so that they supplied 75-80% of the protein and 55-60% of the energy required) caused a decrease in wt. but no clinical symptoms of ketosis.
