In investigations on the problem of latency of this pathogen in apple, Pezicula malicorticis produced the endo-type enzymes polymethyl galacturonase (PMG) and polygalacturonase (PG) in a nutrient sol. containing different carbohydrates as sole C source. Pectin and Na pectate were degraded equally well by enzymes produced on pectin, Na pectate or carboxymethylcellulose. Those produced on glucose, fructose and galactose showed significant preference for pectin.
