Studies on the production of respiratory mycoplasmosis free chicks. I. In vitro and in vivo effectiveness of some selected drugs

In in vitro studies, tylosin, erythromycin and tetracycline were the most effective in inhibiting the growth of M. gallisepticum. When introduced into the air sac, 5 mg of each drug killed 100% of the embryos, but small doses (0.1 mg) of tylosin, erythromycin or streptomycin appeared to stimulate viability, since fewer deaths occurred in treated than in control eggs.
