, : Studies on the productive and reproductive characteristics of turkeys selected for rearing on pasture in the south of Italy. 5. Crossbreeding with heavy breeds. Growth, food consumption, conformation and carcass yield. Annali dell' Istituto Sperimentale per la Zootecnia 4(2): 197-217

Two "Grigia di Bella" strains (GA and GB) were crossed with each other and with 2 heavy breeds, the White and Brown Rovigo (WR and BR). Data on live-weight gain to slaughter at 24 wk of age are tabulated. At 24 wk, live weight in purebred GAs and GBs was similar, averaging 7.42 and 4.82 kg in males and females resp. v 8.05 and 5.09 kg in strain crosses, 8.81 and 6.12 kg in crosses with BRs, and 9.02 and 6.05 kg in crosses with WRs.
