The existence of adventitious root primordia on the branches of plum trees is described for the first time. They did not form the standard burr knots but were distributed along the branch and below it on the side away from the crown. A histological examination revealed no sign of root primordia in 1 year-old-wood, whereas a few typical enlarged parenchyma rays with cambial extrusions were evident in 2nd year wood and many in 3rd year wood.
