Studies on the proteases in Culex pipiens

, : Studies on the proteases in Culex pipiens. Journal of Comparative Physiology 90(1): 53-70

The proteolytic enzymes of the larvae, pupae and adults of an autogenous strain of Culex pipiens pipiens L. and an anautogenous strain of C. pipiens fatigans Wied. were investigated qualitatively and quantitively. The use of synthetic substrates allowed the identification of four distinct proteolytic enzymes: trypsin, chymotrypsin, leucine aminopeptidase and carboxypeptidase A. Chymotrypsin was present only in the larva, whereas the other proteases were observed in all developmental stages.
