Studies on the quality of citrus fruits. I. 14C studies on seasonal changes in organic acids and sugars in satsumas

, : Studies on the quality of citrus fruits. I. 14C studies on seasonal changes in organic acids and sugars in satsumas. Nippon Nogei Kagaku Kaishi 47(9): 571-576

When fruits were exposed to 14CO2 at an early growth stage (beginning of July) 14C-assimilation products remained in the fruit until the final stage of ripening. D-glucose-U-14C administered to fruits during the growing season was more easily broken down than sucrose-U-14C. The administration of citric acid-1,5-14C resulted in the labelling of the neutral fraction during and after late September, showing that the synthesis of sugars from citric acid was possible.
