Studies on the quick freezing of strawberries. VI. The effect of calcium on yield, firmness and drip loss

, : Studies on the quick freezing of strawberries. VI. The effect of calcium on yield, firmness and drip loss. Annali dell' Istituto Sperimentale per la Valorizzazione Tecnologica dei Prodotti Agricoli, Milano 4: 67-72

Flesh firmness of fresh Pocahontas berries did not vary with the CaCO3 content of 4 different field soils but drip loss was least in fruit from the soil containing most CaCO3. In another experiment crop yield, earliness of ripening, flesh firmness in Pocahontas and Surprise des Halles, and drip loss in Surprise were unaffected by spraying the flowering crop with Ca(NO3)2 solution but drip loss was reduced in Pocahontas.
