Studies on the rate of leaf emergence in tobacco plants. 1. Effect of temperature on the growing behaviour of the shoot apex and the relationship between leaf initiation and leaf emergence of tobacco plants

, : Studies on the rate of leaf emergence in tobacco plants. 1. Effect of temperature on the growing behaviour of the shoot apex and the relationship between leaf initiation and leaf emergence of tobacco plants. Bulletin of the Utsunomiya Tobacco Experiment Station (9): 17-25

The growth rate of the tobacco shoot apex increased as the temperature to which the above-ground parts were exposed increased up to 24 deg C, but at higher temperatures, however, it declined. Growth rate also increased as root temperatures increased up to 32 deg. The number of leaves which had initiated but not unfolded increased as plants developed.
