The growth rate of the tobacco shoot apex increased as the temperature to which the above-ground parts were exposed increased up to 24 deg C, but at higher temperatures, however, it declined. Growth rate also increased as root temperatures increased up to 32 deg. The number of leaves which had initiated but not unfolded increased as plants developed.
