Setia, M.S.; Rawat, J.S.; Pant, H.C., 1972: Studies on the recycling of urea nitrogen in the parotid saliva of buffalo calves under different levels of nitrogen intake. Indian Journal of Dairy Science 25(2): 107-110
Three buffalo calves, 1, 2 and 2.5 years old, were given 552, 1104 and 1656 g of concentrate mixture daily and drinking water containing sodium bicarbonate was continually available. During 24 h 10 to 12 saliva and blood samples were collected by parotid duct cannula and jugular vein. The concentration of urea in the parotid saliva increased as the rate of salivary secretion increased and on average was 93.8% of blood urea concentration.
