Injection of formalin into the ileal lymph nodes of 21 pigs caused obstruction of the lymphatic system and led to changes closely resembling spontaneous ileitis. The ileal wall became reddened and oedematous with numerous intra-abdominal adhesions. Twelve of the 21 pigs developed internal or external fistulae of the intestine after a week, and the growth of these pigs was retarded.
