Studies on the regulation of planar growth and plagiotropism of primary leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris

, : Studies on the regulation of planar growth and plagiotropism of primary leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris. Dissertation Abstracts International, B 33(6): 2504

In 7-day-old P. vulgaris seedlings, the hyponastic response of the blade of the primary leaves due to application of IAA resulted from increased growth of cells in the lower layers of the leaf relative to the upper layer. The hyponastic curvature was apparent within 15 min of IAA application and the greatest rate of curvature was found within 30 min. Most of the auxin was taken up within 10 min of application and 40% of the effect was found if leaves were washed 2 min after application.
