Studies on the reproductive system of Hymenolepis diminuta using autoradiography and transplantation

, : Studies on the reproductive system of Hymenolepis diminuta using autoradiography and transplantation. Journal of Parasitology 61(1): 100-104

Adult Hymenolepis diminuta exposed in vitro for 3 hours to H3-thymidine showed incorporation of the isotope on autoradiograms over nuclei of actively dividing cells in the testes, ovary, vitellaria, and developing embryos in the eggs. Timing studies utilizing labelled worms transplanted to uninfected rats showed that it took 18 hours for spermatogonia to develop to primary spermatocytes, 24 hours to secondary spermatocytes, 36 hours to spermatids, and 48 hours to sperm bundles.
