Phenolic compounds separated from Japanese pear tissue were identified as arbutin, chlorogenic acid (plus isomers), caffeic acid, quinic acid and catechin and its isomer. Leaves contained large quantities of chlorogenic acids. Young leaves contained more arbutin, caffeic and quinic acids than older ones, but did not contain catechins.
