Studies on the resistance of mycobacteria

, : Studies on the resistance of mycobacteria. Veterinarnomeditsinski Nauki, Sofia 10(2): 39-49

Mycobacterium avium and atypical mycobacteria were resistant to disinfectants that were capable of killing M. tuberculosis and M. bovis. Cultures of seven species of mycobacteria were killed by exposure first to 10% sodium hydroxide solution for 3 hours, followed by exposure for 20 hours to 3% solution of Chlorenol (parachlormetcresol+chlorxylenol in soap, alcohol and glycerin), Lysol or Istam (alkyl-dimethylbenzylammonium chloride), or a 0.3% soln of copper acetate. These solutions used alone were ineffective.
