Studies on the role of weed plants in the spread of virus diseases. II. Role of Solanum nigrum in spreading chilli mosaic virus, a strain of potato virus Y

, : Studies on the role of weed plants in the spread of virus diseases. II. Role of Solanum nigrum in spreading chilli mosaic virus, a strain of potato virus Y. Madras Agricultural Journal 60(2): 120-121

On inoculating the virus from S. nigrum into Capsicum annuum symptoms appeared in 17-26 days. Aphis gossypii, A. craccivora, A. nerii and Myzus persicae were all vectors, the 1st being the most efficient. On heating infected sap at 55 deg C for 10 min or storing in vitro at 23-28 deg for 5-8h it lost infectivity. The dilution end point was between 10-2 and 20-2.
