Studies on the roles of boron in growth and sugar-transport processes of sugarcane

, : Studies on the roles of boron in growth and sugar-transport processes of sugarcane. Journal of Agriculture of the University of Puerto Rico 57(1): 9-23

In sugar cane plants grown for five and a half months in quartz sand under greenhouse conditions, excluding B from the nutrient solution had little effect on internode elongation but significantly reduced lateral expansion, producing thinner cane stems. B deficiency decreased sugar production in leaves and caused significant losses in the polarization, purity and sucrose values of milled juice and immature storage tissue.
