Studies on the rumen microbes of cattle and buffalo

, : Studies on the rumen microbes of cattle and buffalo. Indian Journal of Animal Sciences 43(7): 615-617

Wheat straw and a concentrate with a mineral supplement were given to 2 Hariana and 2 Murrah buffalo calves for 1 month and then for 23 days samples of strained rumen liquor were collected just before feeding and at intervals of 2 h after feeding. One calf of each breed was given sodium sulphite 1% of total DM intake. The total microbial count in all the calves was higher before than after feeding; there was a gradual rise in the count which began 6 h after feeding.
