Studies on the selection of rice strains by grain:straw ratio in rice breeding

, : Studies on the selection of rice strains by grain:straw ratio in rice breeding. Journal of the Central Agricultural Experiment Station, Japan (17): 1-59

Low productivity of rice plants in the Kanto district of Japan appeared to be due to low levels of solar radiation during ripening; growth was vigorous up to heading, often resulting in overgrowth. Cultivar with reduced vegetative growth and a relatively high grain weight or a high grain:straw ratio were considered suitable for the district.
