Teredo navalis and Lyrodus pedicellatus were the marine borers identified in a study of logs of Pseudotsuga menziesii, Pinus sylvestris, Tsuga heterophylla and Thuja plicata, stored in the sea at Wakasa Bay, central Honshu, from Feb. 1971 to Jan. 1972; Bankia bipalmulata, found in an earlier study in Dec. 1970 (in which T. navalis was by far the commonest borer) was not recorded.
