Studies on the soil adaptability of warm-season grasses. 1. Effect of phosphorus levels in mineral soils on the early growth of Bahia grass

, : Studies on the soil adaptability of warm-season grasses. 1. Effect of phosphorus levels in mineral soils on the early growth of Bahia grass. Bulletin of the Shikoku Agricultural Experiment Station (24): 109-122

Application of N and superphosphate markedly promoted tillering and leaf growth of Bahia grass; AlPO4 and Fe3(PO4)2 also proved good sources of P2O5. At tillering, leaves contained 4% N and 0.7% P2O5; P2O5 content then declined but Fe2O3 content increased. Tillering formed a regular pattern and was related to the length and number of roots and main-stem leaves and was rapid at 20-25 deg C, but slower at higher temperatures.
