Studies on the specificity of adrenocortical function in ruminant nutrition. III. Effect of season, age and sex on plasma adrenocorticoids level of cattle, sheep and rats

, : Studies on the specificity of adrenocortical function in ruminant nutrition. III. Effect of season, age and sex on plasma adrenocorticoids level of cattle, sheep and rats. Japanese Journal of Zootechnical Science 42(11): 577-581

Levels of adrenocorticoids (11-OHCS) in the plasma of cattle and sheep were consistently lower than in rats, and were unaffected by season. The levels in rats tended to be higher in winter, and in cattle and rats the levels were higher in females than males. There was little variation with age, except in calves between 7 and 12 months of age, the level in winter was higher than in summer. The susceptibility of calves to Kiriyoi disease (Sugano, S.
