Studies on the specificity of adrenocortical function in ruminant nutrition. IV. Effect of ACTH on adrenocorticoids level and eosinophils count in blood of various animals

, : Studies on the specificity of adrenocortical function in ruminant nutrition. IV. Effect of ACTH on adrenocorticoids level and eosinophils count in blood of various animals. Japanese Journal of Zootechnical Science 42(12): 641-647

After a course of saline injections to accustom the animal, ACTH was given i/p. Time to peak plasma adrenocorticoid (11-OHCS) level was 30 min. (rat), one hour (rabbit), and two hours (sheep and cattle). The increase in 11-OHCS in cattle was 582% (dose 34 i.v.), in sheep 326% (dose 6.5 i.v.), in rabbits 381% (dose 0.8 i.v.), and in rats 121% (dose 0.17 i.v.).
