Starvation with ad libitum supplies of water, was enforced for 43 days in four sheep, 14 days in 18 rabbits, and seven days in 21 rats. Experiments were terminated at the first death, except in sheep, of which three died between days 39 and 43. In sheep, body weight decreased exponentially to reach 76.5% of normal after 10 days, thereafter it decreased linearly to reach half normal after 40 days.
