Studies on the sterile-male technique as a means of control of Adoxophyes orana (Lepidopt., Tortricidae). I. Problems of mass rearing (crowding effects)

, : Studies on the sterile-male technique as a means of control of Adoxophyes orana (Lepidopt., Tortricidae). I. Problems of mass rearing (crowding effects). Netherlands Journal of Plant Pathology 79(2): 54-61

During work in the Netherlands on the mass-rearing of Adoxophyes orana (Fisch. v. Roesl.) on an artificial medium, it had been found that growth was retarded and cannibalism was frequent when two or more larvae were reared in the same glass tube. In this first part of a series on work there for the control of this pest on apple by the sterile-male technique, an account is given of investigations on the cause of this retardation of growth and on measures to overcome it.
