Studies on the sterilisation by radiation of Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann and on the behaviour of the normal and of the sterile insect

, : Studies on the sterilisation by radiation of Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann and on the behaviour of the normal and of the sterile insect. Redia 52: 511-547

Investigations into the sexual biology of Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) and the effects of irradiation on it were carried out in the laboratory at Ispra in Italy in view of the reduced competitiveness of completely sterilised males and the current interest in using males irradiated at lower rates for control purposes.

Purpose: Retinal detachment and degeneration cause axonal sprouting and synaptogenesis by cone and rod cells.
