Studies on the suitability of potassium-calcium exchange curves for characterizing the plant-available potassium in soils

Data for 14 soils showed that the LBC (the Q:I ratio of the linear part of the curve) was reduced by many years of heavy K fertilization, and frequently raised by plant uptake. Labile K was significantly increased by K fertilization and strongly decreased by plant uptake. In pot experiments with oats, very good relationships were found between the logarithm of the K uptake by the plants and log (labile K.LBC).
