Studies on the swelling pressure of wood. I. The effects of shape and dimension of specimen, and the height of water-immersed part of specimen on swelling pressure of wood

, : Studies on the swelling pressure of wood. I. The effects of shape and dimension of specimen, and the height of water-immersed part of specimen on swelling pressure of wood. Mokuzai Gakkaishi Journal of the Japan Wood Research Society 18(8): 381-385

Measurements on specimens of Chamaecyparis obtusa and Fagus crenata showed that the dimensions of the specimen affect the maximum swelling pressure. The ratio of maximum swelling pressure in the longitudinal direction to that in the tangential and radial directions is very small. Maximum swelling pressure is affected only to a small extent by the proportion of the specimen immersed in water.
