Studies on the swelling pressure of wood. II. The effect of initial moisture content of wood
Mishiro, A., 1973: Studies on the swelling pressure of wood. II. The effect of initial moisture content of wood. Mokuzai Gakkaishi Journal of the Japan Wood Research Society 19(2): 63-68
Measurements were made of the rate of increase in swelling pressure (radial and tangential) of specimens of Chamaecyparis obtusa and Fagus crenata having initial moisture contents ranging from 0 to 30%. The maximum swelling pressure is greater, and the time to reach the maximum is generally shorter, the lower the initial m.c. The rate of increase in swelling pressure and the maximum reached are influenced by the method of drying (oven drying or low-temperature drying with P2O5).
