Studies on the temperature and management of strawberries for forcing. I. The effect of night air and soil temperature on the growth, yield and nutrition of strawberries for forcing

, : Studies on the temperature and management of strawberries for forcing. I. The effect of night air and soil temperature on the growth, yield and nutrition of strawberries for forcing. Bulletin of the Kanagawa Horticultural Experiment Station (20): 50-57

In greenhouse experiments using the Fukuba night air temperatures of 8, 13 or 18 deg C and soil temperatures of 13, 18 or 23 deg , in all combinations, were maintained. The higher the night air and soil temperatures the better the growth and the earlier the plants flowered, but the treatments with soil temperatures of 23 deg produced plants with very succulent growth and reduced numbers of flowers and fruit.
