Studies on the thermal softening of wood. III. Effects of the temperature on the bending creep of dry Hinoki wood

, : Studies on the thermal softening of wood. III. Effects of the temperature on the bending creep of dry Hinoki wood. Mokuzai Gakkaishi Journal of the Japan Wood Research Society 20(11): 517-522

Dry specimens of wood of Chamaecyparis obtusa were impregnated with liquid paraffin and subjected to a bending creep test under constant stress at temperatures from 20 deg to 180 deg C. Creep compliance curves plotted against log. (time) showed that creep increased with rising temperature, with discontinuities occurring at 70-80 deg and above 140 deg. It is inferred that second-order transitions occur at these temperatures.
