Studies on the toxic components of erysipelas bacteria (Erysipelothrix insidiosa)

, : Studies on the toxic components of erysipelas bacteria (Erysipelothrix insidiosa). Untersuchung uber toxische Bestandteile von Rotlaufbakterien Erysipelothrix insidiosa: 75

Water-soluble fractions from twelve strains of Erysipelothrix insidiosa were tested for toxicity. The fractions were injected i/v into 10-day-old chick embryos, and the LD50 values were determined. Toxic components from four strains very virulent to pigs were very toxic to chick embryos (LD50 0.01 mu g to 0.207 mu g). An extract from one virulent strain was moderately toxic (LD50 2.8 mu g). The extracts from four non-virulent strains were of very low toxicity (LD50 10.90 mu g to 108 mu g).
