Studies on the toxic substances in barley infected with Fusarium spp

, : Studies on the toxic substances in barley infected with Fusarium spp. Journal Food Hygienic Society of Japan 13(5): 368-375

Toxic substances were separated from cereal grains infected with Fusarium. Production of the toxic substances in culture filtrates of the isolated str. was also determined. The F., Alternaria, Aspergillus and Penicillium spp. were isolated from mouldy grains of barley and wheat, F. roseum or related spp. forming the majority. Mouldy grains mainly contained 'Rd-toxin' mp 149.5-151 deg C, and nivalenol, mp 224-226 deg C, both toxic to mice and protozoa. The Rd-toxin had a scirpene nucleus.
