Sastry, M.S.; Singh, Y.P.; Dutt, B., 1973: Studies on the toxicity of Bijada cake. Indian Veterinary Journal 50(7): 685-688
In Gujarat seeds of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) are crushed for the extraction of oil and the residue, bijada cake, is comparable in composition to cottonseed or linseed oilcake. Four calves were given 250 or 500 g bijada cake daily, mixed with 1 kg concentrate, for 4 weeks. They all remained healthy, had normal haemoglobin and red and white blood cell values but growth was less with the larger amount of bijada cake.
