Studies on the transit of the content in the chicken gastro-intestine. II. Relationship between movements of gizzard and duodenum and the transit of contents in the small intestine

, : Studies on the transit of the content in the chicken gastro-intestine. II. Relationship between movements of gizzard and duodenum and the transit of contents in the small intestine. Nihon Juigaku Zasshi. Japanese Journal of Veterinary Science 36(6): 513-523

An abdominal window method confirmed that duodenal antiperistalsis forces gut contents to return to the gizzard. Strong globular contractions of the gizzard induced peristalsis in the duodenum and this was followed by antiperistalsis while the gizzard was relaxed. When 0.2 ml Na215CrO4 was placed in the duodenum through a cannula in the bile duct, 18.9% of its radioactivity was transferred to the gizzard within 1 hour.
