Studies on the translocation of 45Ca in the apple tree. II. Transport to the fruit and distribution

, : Studies on the translocation of 45Ca in the apple tree. II. Transport to the fruit and distribution. Gartenbauwissenschaft 39(1): 57-67

45Ca translocation was studied in relation to the time of uptake by the roots as described in the preceding abstract. Fruits from trees receiving the label were sectioned longitudinally at different times during and after the labelling periods. Autoradiography showed that no Ca gradient was apparent at the beginning of fruit development but a gradient developed with increasing fruit size, more label appearing at the pedicel than the calyx end.
