Studies on the translocation of 45Ca in the apple tree. IV. Secondary Ca translocation after dormancy

, : Studies on the translocation of 45Ca in the apple tree. IV. Secondary Ca translocation after dormancy. Gartenbauwissenschaft 40(3): 105-112

Fruit-bearing Cox's Orange Pippin apple trees were root-labelled with 45Ca nutrient solution at different times during the growing season and were then supplied with inactive nutrient solution. During the following 2 years secondary Ca translocation was studied by measuring 45Ca in the new growth. Ca was mobilized and secondarily translocated to a greater extent the later it was taken up during the previous season (a factor of 3-5 between uptake in May/June and late August).
