Fruit-bearing branches were exposed to 14CO2 for an hour and defoliated 24 h later, at which stage different soil moisture treatments were applied. With decreasing moisture supply the 14C activity of the ethanol-soluble fraction in the fruit increased, whereas that of the ethanol-insoluble fraction fell. Sugars may be major constituents of the former fraction, and polysaccharides of the latter.
