Studies on the translocation of photosynthates in satsumas. IV. Diurnal fluctuations in fruit growth and environmental conditions

, : Studies on the translocation of photosynthates in satsumas. IV. Diurnal fluctuations in fruit growth and environmental conditions. Journal of the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science 42(3): 215-220

Fruit enlargement was conspicuous from midday to 20.00 h and slight but steady until sunrise. About 1 h after sunrise a gradual decrease in diameter began. The rate of contraction and the duration of the expansion phase depended on the weather. On fine days smaller, short-term (20-30 min) rhythmic fluctuations in diameter were superimposed on the main trends. Such minor fluctuations were not apparent on cloudy days or when the tree was artificially shaded.
