, : Studies on the transmission of papaya mosaic virus by Aphis gossypii Glover. Indian Journal of Entomology 1973; 34(3): 240-245

In laboratory tests in India on the transmission of papaya mosaic virus by Aphis gossypii Glov., pre-acquisition starvation increased the efficiency of the vector, whereas post-acquisition starvation decreased it. Aphids lost the virus rapidly when feeding. Also, the rate of virus loss increased as the temperature increased. The optimum duration for acquisition and transmission feeding periods was 15 min., while the minimum duration was 1 and 0.5 min.
