Studies on the treatment of fascioliasis. VIII. Anthelmintic effect of I-129 on the immature stages of Fasciola in rabbits.

, : Studies on the treatment of fascioliasis. VIII. Anthelmintic effect of I-129 on the immature stages of Fasciola in rabbits.. Japanese Journal of Parasitology 20(1): 34-39

The compound 'I-129' (bithionol diethylcarbamazine) was given orally in gelatine capsules to 26 rabbits at 50-300 mg/kg body wt 14-35 days after experimental infection with 20 Fasciola metacercariae. Examination at slaughter 54-81 days after infection showed 300 mg/kg was 87-100% effective against flukes 3-5 weeks old and 29% effective against flukes 2 weeks old; 50-100 mg/kg was 37-77% effective against flukes 4-5 weeks old.
