Studies on the treatment of fascioliasis. X. Anthelmintic effect of rafoxanide against immature Fasciola sp., especially worms at early stages of infection, in rabbits

, : Studies on the treatment of fascioliasis. X. Anthelmintic effect of rafoxanide against immature Fasciola sp., especially worms at early stages of infection, in rabbits. Japanese Journal of Parasitology 23(6): 397-403

Only one of 6 rabbits experimentally infected with 20 Fasciola sp. metacercariae and given rafoxanide at 10 mg/kg body-weight in feed on days 21 and 28 after infection harboured an immature fluke in the liver at autopsy on days 69 or 72. Similar treatment at 25 mg/kg removed all flukes. Treatment with 50 mg/kg on day 14 eliminated all flukes but treatment on day 7 resulted in immature flukes in 2 of 3 rabbits.
