Retinol deficiency was produced in rats as described earlier (Sundaresan and Bhagavan, Biochemical Journal (1972) 122, 1) and when weight reached a plateau they were divided into 3 groups of 6. Each was given by injection 10 mu g retinoic acid containing some retinoic acid-11,12-3H and some labelled 15-14C, 14-14C or 6,7-14C and urine was collected for 24 h. Distribution of labelled metabolites in ether-soluble, acidic and water-soluble fractions is shown in tables.
