Studies on the use and the effect of herbicides (simazine) in nursery containers

, : Studies on the use and the effect of herbicides (simazine) in nursery containers. Gartenbauwissenschaft 40(1): 12-25

A bioassay was devised to determine the depth to which Gesatop 50 (50% simazine) is washed down into various substrates in nursery containers. In trials with 10 spp. of ornamental woody plants grown in 3-litre containers the herbicide was applied at rates equivalent to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 kg simazine/ha. Soil samples were taken from the 0-5, 5-10 and 10-15 cm layers at 0, 7, 14 and 21 weeks after treatment and bioassayed for the herbicide.
