Pollen stainability, studied in four tetraploid populations, was uncorrelated with seed set per head. A new and an older tetraploid population differed in percentage of tetrads without microspores and also in the percentage of pollen grains similar in shape to haploid pollen grains, the values being higher in the older population in each case.
