Studies on the utilization of petro-yeast as diet of freshwater fish. 1. The distribution of chitin decomposing bacteria in digestive tracts

, : Studies on the utilization of petro-yeast as diet of freshwater fish. 1. The distribution of chitin decomposing bacteria in digestive tracts. Bulletin of the Japanese Society of Scientific Fisheries 38(9): 1013-1019

1. To study the reasons for the efficient utilization of petroleum yeast in freshwater fish, experiments were done, laying emphasis on the high content of chitin in the yeast. Distribution of chitin-decomposing bacteria in the digestive tracts of ayu (Plecoglossus altivelis), carp (Cyprinus carpo) and rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) and biochemical characteristics of the isolated bacteria were studied.
