Studies on the utilization of rice straw as a roughage. II. Its effects on lactation and VFA production in rumen

, : Studies on the utilization of rice straw as a roughage. II. Its effects on lactation and VFA production in rumen. Journal of Agricultural Science, Japan 18(2): 84-90

Rice straw was added to cattle feed concentrates to a level of 10-40%, with maintenance of a constant level of digestible crude protein and total digestible N, and effects were investigated on lactation, milk quality (expressed as fat content) and 4%-FCM values. No significant variations were found in milk fat % among cows fed the different levels of rice straw, but 4%-FCM values altered depending on the level of rice straw in the diet.
