Studies on the utilization of the alpha -hydroxy acid of methionine by chicks fed crystalline amino acid diets

, : Studies on the utilization of the alpha -hydroxy acid of methionine by chicks fed crystalline amino acid diets. Poultry Science 53(2): 680-686

Groups of 5 seven-day-old White Rock cockerels previously on a semi-purified diet with 30% isolated soya protein were given for 7 days maize starch and crystalline amino acid diets similar to one described previously (see NAR 42, 3415) but with methionine or an equimolar quantity of hydroxymethionine supplying the total S amino acid requirement, a mixture of aspartic acid, alanine, serine and diammonium citrate replacing glutamic acid, and with alternative mineral and vitamin premixes.
