Studies on the utilization of urea by young calves. Urea utilization by calves before weaning

, : Studies on the utilization of urea by young calves. Urea utilization by calves before weaning. Japanese Journal of Zootechnical Science 43(11): 598-602

Digestion and N balance studies were made with 6 Holstein male calves in 2 groups, about 5 weeks old in trial 1 and 8 weeks old in trial 2. In trial 1 one group had milk replacer and a starting feed with 8.7% crude protein and the other had milk replacer and urea-supplemented starting feed with 16.7% crude protein. In trial 2 both groups had the urea-supplemented starting feed alone but before the experimental period they had been given urea for 7 or 29 days.
